You absolutely should tell your doctor about your symptoms. If you don't, they may think everything is fine and working as expected.

Try dr Jamie koufman’s books. And also facebook group and blogs. Very good advice. Includes a two week washout detox thing where you get rid of all acids plus chocolate and fatty foods for two weeks.
you also don’t go to bed for three hours after eating. This washes out the Pepsin. . The Pepsin is activated by the acid which causes all the inflammation in your esophagus.

If you've never had chronic heartburn this should work well. OTC Omeprazole/Prilosec is another choice Talk to the pharmacist about options. He/she cannot prescribe just talk options. For quick short relief I recommend liquid antacid. But its relief is a short time 1-2 hours at most. It can be taken before or after the Pepcid but is not necessary the Pepcid also called (generic) Famotidine is effective. If this fails you see your doctor, a walk-in or a GI specialist.
